0005 Two usage modes

  • Status: accepted (2026-10-29)
  1. HTML with answers: astrolabe.js compiles the source in the browser and grades with localChecker. Answers are public by definition; a fixed public secret and the page path as salt keep ids stable across reloads.
  2. HTML + backend: the server compiles, keeps the key, serves the view; <astl-player endpoint> uses httpChecker and grading protocol 1 (@astrolabe/server is the reference implementation).

Both modes use the same source, player, elements and engine; only the checker differs.

Teachers can start with a single HTML file; products move to the backend mode without changing content. astrolabe-player.js (backend mode) contains no engine and no answer logic.
